Dance/Movement Therapy
The body is the vessel in which we experience our emotions, sensations, thoughts, and memories. Dance/movement therapist use a range of practices from breath work and body awareness, to full-body expressive movement to connect with our body and gain new insight and healing.
In dance/movement therapy, your movement, gestures, feelings, and actions are explored as a unique language that goes beyond words. Dance/Movement Therapy is not just “dance” in the traditional sense of the word, and no experience is necessary. We use a range of practices from guided breathwork and body awareness, to full-body expressive movement. Learn to understand your body and to trust your body as a calming or grounding resource.
We love to move with all ages, individuals, and couples!
What Is Dance/Movement Therapy?
Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) is a form of psychotherapy that integrates movement, body awareness, and emotional expression. The body is viewed as an essential source of information, communication, and healing.
In dance/movement therapy, movement becomes a language. Gestures, posture, rhythm, and breath can express emotions that may be difficult to put into words. By paying attention to how the body moves or feels, clients gain insight into patterns, emotions, and internal experiences.
Dance/movement therapy can help clients:
Increase awareness of bodily sensations and emotions
Release tension and stored stress
Improve emotional regulation
Explore identity and self-expression
Build a stronger mind–body connection
The focus is never on performance or technique. It is about presence, curiosity, and embodied understanding.
Who Is Dance/Movement Therapy For?

What Does a Dance/Movement Therapy Session Look Like?
Each dance/movement therapy session at InTouch & Motion is tailored to the client. Sessions are collaborative, trauma-informed, and paced according to your comfort.
A session may include:
Gentle grounding practices, such as noticing breath or weight in the body
Simple movement exploration, like stretching, swaying, or walking
Awareness of posture, tension, or patterns of movement
Mindful attention to how emotions show up physically
Reflection with the therapist to integrate insights
Movement may be done standing, seated, or even lying down. Clients are always invited, never required, to move in any particular way. Choice, consent, and safety are central to the process.
